Whether you’re just starting your fertility journey, facing ovulation issues, or have tried other methods without success, our treatments can provide a natural boost and balance to your reproductive system, including ovarian and uterine function.

Is there scientific backing to the treatments you provide?

What Modalities are Used in Fertility Treatments?

Acupuncture

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to help optimize fertility in both menstruators and sperm producers. When it comes to optimizing fertility, acupuncture can improve blood flow to the reproductive organs, regulate hormone levels, reduce stress, and promote relaxation.

Herbal Medicine

When it comes to enhancing fertility, specific herbs are prescribed based on an individual’s unique constitution and underlying cause of infertility. East Asian herbal medicine can help regulate hormone levels, improve blood flow to the reproductive organs, support overall reproductive health and reduce stress.

Moxibustion

Moxibustion is a traditional East Asian medicine technique that involves burning dried mugwort over and around specific acupuncture points or areas on the body. The heat generated from the burning mugwort is believed to enhance fertility by improving blood flow to the reproductive organs, enhancing the uterine lining, and alleviating menstrual cramps.

Supplements

Supplements can enhance fertility by providing the body with essential nutrients that support reproductive health. For example, supplements such as folate, CoQ10, vitamin D, and omega-3 fatty acids have been shown to improve fertility in both men and women. These essential nutrients can help regulate hormone levels, improve egg quality, and support sperm production.

Nutritional Support

East Asian nutritional therapy can enhance fertility by focusing on specific foods and dietary patterns that support reproductive health. East Asian medicine emphasizes the consumption of nutrient-rich foods, such as cooked vegetables, whole grains, and proteins, while avoiding processed foods, excessive sugar, fried foods, dairy products, raw food, caffeine and alcohol. It also takes into account individual body types and imbalances to create personalized dietary plans that can help regulate hormones, improve egg quality, and support overall reproductive function.

Where are You in Your Journey?

Our acupuncturist is a board certified reproductive acupuncturist by the Acupuncture and TCM Board of Reproductive Medicine (ABORM) and has advanced training in western and eastern reproductive medicine, has passed a rigorous advanced certification exam, and will work collaboratively with your physician to ensure you receive the highest level of care.

In order to optimize your chances of conceiving and carrying a pregnancy full-term, we recommend preparing your body for at least 3 months prior to conceiving. During this time, the male and female partner are treated with acupuncture and Chinese herbs in order to regulate hormone levels, improve ovarian function, nourish the uterine lining, and improve semen quality and quantity. A minimum of 3 months of treatment is recommended because eggs begin their maturation 120 days before they are recruited for ovulation, and the sperm maturation process averages 90 days.

When it comes to your reproductive health, acupuncture and Chinese medicine can effectively treat:

  • Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS)
  • Endometriosis
  • Diminished Ovarian Reserve (High FSH/Low AMH)
  • Poor Egg Quality
  • Advanced Maternal Age
  • Recurrent Miscarriage
  • Unexplained Infertility
  • Male Factor Infertility
  • IUI Support
  • IVF Support
Acupuncture and Chinese medicine provide safe and natural relief to alleviate the physical and emotional changes associated with pregnancy, resolve breech presentations, ripen the cervix to promote labor naturally, ease birth and facilitate a smooth postnatal recovery. Acupuncture and Chinese medicine are beneficial for:
  • Recurrent Miscarriage
  • Nausea
  • Headaches
  • Pain management: back, rib, sciatic, ligamentand pelvic
  • Leg Cramps
  • Edema
  • Insomnia
  • Digestive issues: constipation, acid reflux, and
  • Indigestion
  • Hemorrhoids
  • Breech Presentation
  • Cervical Ripening
  • Labor Induction

In Traditional Chinese Medicine, the concept of rest to ensure a woman completely recovers from childbirth is an important part of traditional Chinese medicine. The idea that it will take a woman at least one month to fully recover from childbirth is not a widespread notion in Western culture.

While a recovery period of 40 days (or even 100 days in some classic Chinese texts) may sound unnecessary and excessive, it is more than reasonable and needed in order to compensate for the entire nine months of pregnancy and birth.

We recommend acupuncture once a week commencing from 2 weeks postpartum for a total of 3 weeks in order to facilitate an efficient recovery. During this time, acupuncture is helpful to facilitate perineal healing, emotional balance and promote lactation.

FAQs

Blank Question

Blank Question

Is there research that supports acupuncture for fertility?

Yes, studies suggest that acupuncture can increase implantation rates, decrease the risk of biomedical pregnancies, increase live birth rates and increase IVF clinical pregnancy rates. Please contact us if you would like to receive any links and/or articles related to the current research landscape around acupuncture for fertility.

How many treatments will I need and how often will I have to receive treatment?

Your treatment frequency and the number of treatments you will need is based on your individual needs and will be determined during your initial visit.

When should I start treatment, and are there specific points in my cycle where it is more beneficial to receive acupuncture?

Since the therapeutic effects of acupuncture are cumulative, it is more important to receive recurring treatment over a period of time rather than sporadic treatments at specific times. The frequency and duration of treatment needed will be based on your individual needs and will be determined on your initial visit.

What is your success rate?

Since each patient presents with their own unique health history and pathway to conception, we do not tabulate success rates. During your initial visit, we will be able to provide you with a comprehensive treatment plan outlining the best pathway to a successful pregnancy.

What is your experience in treating fertility?

We have over 15 years of clinical practice in treating patients throughout every phase of their fertility journeys.

What does it mean to be ABORM certified?

ABORM stands for the Acupuncture and TCM Board of Reproductive Medicine. ABORM-certified fellows are board-certified reproductive acupuncturists who have advanced training in Western and Eastern reproductive medicine. ABORM-certified fellows have passed a rigorous advanced certification exam and work collaboratively with your Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist (REI) and OB/GYN to ensure you receive the best care possible.

Do you prescribe herbs? Will I be required to take them?

Yes, we prescribe custom Chinese herbal medicine and are board-certified herbalists. Although herbs can enhance the benefits of treatment, herbs are optional and never required.
