National Infertility Awareness Week: Optimizing Fertility During Isolation with Chinese Medicine

While physical distancing is creating barriers to receive regular acupuncture, increased time together is allowing couples to focus on their goal of conception. Since there are currently no recommendations specific to pregnant women regarding the evaluation or management of COVID-19, conception is considered safe at this time despite the pandemic. However, please be advised that very little is known about COVID-19, particularly related to its effect on pregnant women and infants. Please note that prenatal care visits and overall access to health services are more limited during the pandemic.

Since this is a stressful time and fertility is a time sensitive issue. Here are some resources to make sure you are receiving the best care possible while sheltering in place:

Telehealth Consultations:

If you are a new patient: ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

  • During your initial consultation, we will discuss your fertility history, curate a Chinese herbal medicine and supplemental regimen, discuss nutrition and lifestyle changes to enhance fertility, develop a personalized fertility plan and comprise an acupressure protocol for you to self treat at home.⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
    ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
If you are a current patient:
  • Telehealth sessions are complementary.  ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
  • During your session, we will review BBT charts, labs, and progress in order to adjust Chinese herbal medicine and supplements and nutrition and lifestyle recommendations. I will answer any questions and concerns you have as well as adjust and review acupressure protocols.

Teleheath video consults are offered via Jane and can be booked here.

Basal Body Temperature Charting:

Charting your basal body temperature is a useful tool to help you determine when you are ovulating in order to  time intercourse. Here is a helpful guide to help you get started.

Home Fertility Testing:

The Modern Fertility Test:

  • The Modern Fertility test measures up to 8 hormones depending on a woman’s birth control (AMH, E2, LH, FSH, TSH, FT4, PRL, and Total T).
  • Women can test at home with a simple finger prick, or head to a local Quest Diagnostics lab.
  • Results are returned to women through their secure online profile, where personalized reports explain how hormones relate to ovarian reserve, menopause, egg freezing and IVF, and more. Currently 3 physicians review results before they are returned to customers.

Pre Mom

  • This OPK quantifies your LH level from 0 to 80 mIU/mL and shows your exact LH results in a complete chart of your ovulation cycle, particularly beneficial for women with PCOS, irregular cycles, multiple surges, or hard-to-recognize surges.
  • NO need to compare the test line and control line.  No ambiguous result.
  • If you would like to purchase test strips and get started, click here.

Proov

  • Proov is an effective, FDA approved, at home test that confirms whether or not you have ovulated via PdG (Progesterone) tracking.
  • Proov measures PdG (Progesterone) 7-10 days after suspected ovulation to confirm that successful ovulation has occurred.
  • Collect your results at home within minutes through your first morning urine.

Nutrition:

In Chinese medicine, in order to facilitate the production of healthy eggs and sperm, an adequate supply of qi, blood, yin, and jing is required in order to achieve and sustain a healthy pregnancy. Based on your constitution, certain foods will be extremely helpful in optimizing your fertility. Foods that can help boost your fertility are eggs, dark leafy greens, organ meats, bone broth, nuts, and seeds. Here are some additional resources on Chinese medicine, nutrition and fertility:
