A centuries old practicing dating back to use on an empress in the Song Dynasty in 1279 AD, an acupuncture facial treatment involves the insertion of acupuncture needles into fine lines and wrinkles on the face and neck in order to reduce the visible signs of aging. In Chinese medicine, the meridians or pathways of qi flow throughout the entire body from the soles of the feet up to the face and head; consequently, a facial acupuncture treatment addresses the entire body constitutionally, and is not merely “cosmetic.” An acupuncture facial involves the patient in an organic, gradual process, which is customized for each individual. It is no way analogous to, or a substitute for, a surgical “face lift”. A treatment session may confine itself solely to facial acupuncture, or it may be used in conjunction with other procedures.
- Facial acupuncture brings qi and blood to the face and body in order to improve circulation, immunity, digestion and hormone secretion while reducing inflammation.
- It carries nutrients to cells which stimulates the production of collagen and elastin.
- It can erase fine lines and diminish deeper wrinkles, lift sagging eyelids and reduce bags/circles, reduce the appearance of scars and age spots, and benefit acne.
Many begin to see improvements after the first 3-4 treatments, it is generally after 12 treatments that you will see lasting improvements.
We begin with a consult followed by facial and body acupuncture. You will relax for thirty minutes. Next, depending on your skin needs, facial cupping and/or facial gua sha will be performed. You will leave with a glowing complexion, but most importantly you will still look like you!
Facial cupping is designed to bring qi and blood circulation to the skin and muscles. It stimulates blood to the tissues while stimulating collagen and elastin production. By improving blood circulation to the skin, fibroblast cells are stimulated which produces natural collagen and elastin. Increasing fibroblast activity helps repair skin back to its youthful state. Facial cupping smoothes fine lines, relaxes tight facial muscles, and moves out stagnant lymph and toxins. Your face will appear tighter and toned due to the strengthened vascular integrity of your skin.
Facial gua sha helps with deep wrinkles, sagging, facial discolorations and under eye puffiness. It detoxifies the face and is great for rosacea. It also is beneficial for lip wrinkles, crows feet, nasolabial folds and forehead lines.
